It's getting to the point of no return! I need to see whatever the hell's going on behind that wall, I suspect that picture plagiarised off something I'd requested (and altered in a disgraceful manner, won't get into it, it's personal) is about to get a public release very soon, and unless I can stop the artist beforehand, the results will be ugly! Pressure is mounting in real life, I can no longer afford to go another month without it because I may not have that much time (but subscribing to said paywall is something I can afford less because it'll cost me my secrecy and my otherwise clean transaction history, I'm not the type of person who's either willing nor open to dealing with the consequences, some people are, but I'm not one of them). For me it's like a volcano of pain and suffering that's showing the earliest signs of an impending eruption, dogs are freaking out, I'm feeling the ground shake, smoke is visible from the summit, and I just know it's going to be ugly! Also I don't even need to name the artist since there are many people eager to import this artist once the SS importer is fixed.

there are so many artists out there that have Passwords for external links (mega, dropbox) and they are being sent via DMs or Discords and in Kemono a whole lot of these posts get imported but totally ignoring the passwords, I dont know if it's because Artists are sending DMs that can give away who is importing their posts, but at the very least there should be an option to also import Passwords that isnt on DMs or Discord Servers

Some artists are indeed sending template DMs that have the name of the user in them. A couple of brave souls have approved the DMs for display anyway.

it's just been going on for too long, an example amongst many artists im following in Kemono is Birisoba, ever since december 2024 the posts are getting imported but absolutely ignoring the passwords for the dropbox links, and it just keeps happening and im questioning if the Importer is deliberately sabotaging the import of content by ignoring said passwords, or if the artist in question wised up and is sending DMs with explicit names, eitherway Kemono should have an option that allows sharing stuff like passwords without being a direct import of DMs

the Stephen King thing was more about audience. Mass market media piracy represents lost sales because there is a chunk of it from people who would otherwise be willing and able to pay. (It's a minority, but a significant one. It's nowhere near 1:1 though.) But those people just don't feature in the audience of someone with like 200 Patreon subscribers and 20 profile faves on kemono.

I can't find this person's actual Patreon (the OP name does not check out), but it was a useful strawman for me to get off my chest just how things like this are just a massive misunderstanding of how any of this works.

First off, the people who would not pay for your stuff are NEVER going to pay for your stuff.

Second, I have paid for a few things due to finding stuff I liked via places like this. So think of it as 'free advertising'.

You aren't going to get more people paying for your stuff if this site disappears or people stop uploading your content. If anything, less people being able to check out your work means less people who are able and willing to send you money being able to do so.

On my phone today, the Kemono website redirected me to a scam site that kept giving a popup saying to call a certain number. Every time I closed the popup it immediately opened again. It made my phone's browser UNUSABLE until I opened a different link through Discord to open the browser in a new tab that would allow me to close the scam site tab.

This was DIRECTLY caused by the fact that clicking anywhere on the Kemono site often opens a new tab of Kemono and redirects the original Kemono tab to a different site, oftentimes porn. It just so happens that this time, it was a scam site attempting to make my browser useless in an attempt to get me to call a phone number.
